2024-25 WINTER CSHL
NEW: No alcoholic beverages inside the Cranston Veterans Memorial Ice Rink per city of Cranston.
Any team who violates this directive will be forced to forfeit their next game.
Eligibility:
Northern/Eastern/Western/Southern Division - 18 years old and over.
Players can play in more than one division but only one roster in division (captains must check in players with scorer prior to game).
Southern Division is allowed no more than 5 players from Western Division and no more than (1) Northern Division player.
Substitute players - After (2) games played with same team in division player not eligible to play for another team in same division. If you use a substitute player, they can not be from the division you play in.
Playoffs:
Rosters are frozen after Week 10. Any player/sub added after Week 10 is ineligible for the playoffs. All players must play the minimum number of games to qualify for the playoffs (6 games). PLAY AT LEAST (1) GAME BY WEEK 10 AND (6) TOTAL TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR PLAYOFFS. In the event a team's goaltender needs a sub (a player of similar level preferred). Please remember to abide by the jersey rule (no player without a like colored jersey and number is eligible). If you have a roster grievance please bring it up to the scorer prior to the opening face-off. If there is a player entering the game late captains may request a timeout if they have a grievance with such player. No timeout lost. In the event a game is called (due to on-ice behavior) the team leading will advance to the next round. Effective 2-28-2024 in the event a game is called (due to on-ice behavior) and the score is tied both teams will not advance to the next round.
*If any team continues to advance to the finals in a division the CSHL reserves the right to realign a division to make it more competitive for all teams.
Rules:
USA Hockey rules apply (automatic icing (blue line), no red line).
Face-offs - offensive zone when there is a penalty.
3 (12) minute periods.
Minor penalties (1:30). Major penalties (5:00).
Overtime: 3 on 3 5:00 minute overtime in regular season only. If penalty 4 on 3. After penalty expires 4 on 4 until stoppage then back to 3 on 3.
Playoffs - 12 minute sudden-death overtime if tied after (3) periods. No more than (2) 12-minute overtimes (game replayed).
(1) time out each in regular season & playoffs (1 in regulation & 1 in OT).
Running time (6+ goals) in 3rd period in regular season only.
Helmets are required for all players.
Each player must wear a team jersey matching in color with different numbers.
Teams are responsible to provide alternate player a jersey.
No checking.
Teams may play with 6 skaters (no goalie) to start the game and finish (if no regular goalie or game before/after goalie).
If a team has 5 or less skaters, team may pick up no more than (2) players (7 players maximum on team) from previous game (similar level).
Tiebreaker policy for league standings: (1) most wins, (2) least losses, (3) head-to-head, (4) goals for minus goals against, (5) fewest penalties, (6) coin toss. In the event (2) teams are tied and have only played each other once: (1) goals for minus goals against, (2) fewest penalties, (3) coin toss.
Discipline:
(3) penalties in one game: Ejection (1st offense) - Ejection & (1) game suspension (2nd offense) - Ejection & suspension rest of season (3rd offense).
Major (fighting, intent to injure etc.): Ejection & (3) game suspension - Ejection & suspension remainder of season (2nd offense).
Verbal abuse of officials: Ejection & (2) game suspension (1st offense) - Ejection & suspension remainder of season (2nd offense).
If suspension is in the playoffs game suspension is carried over to the following season.
All previous discipline actions (from other seasons) will also be considered to determine any future suspensions.
Any player who is ejected from a game (who refuses to leave the ice) will result in a forfeit for their team.
Note: Offenses are totaled no matter if player plays on another team in another division.
Any player who receives a combination of 4 offenses in one season is suspended rest of season.
NEW Any player/team that instigates a fight in a league game shall forfeit their next league game in the schedule (in addition to (3) game suspension for each player involved).
All major penalties (fighting, intent to injure, hit from behind, hit to the head etc.) will result in a (3) game suspension and 5:00 minute penalty to team. Any team that verbally abuses an official will receive a warning and next time a penalty. If a player is ejected the team will be assessed a 1:30 or 5:00 penalty. If any penalty results in at least 4:30 minutes, player is ejected from the game. No 5:00, 8:00 or 10:00 minute penalties.
League fee:
$200 deposit due prior to start of season to secure team. $2000 due game #1 and remaining balance due at a predetermined date. Any team that is past due after the final deadline shall be in danger of forfeiting any postponed games due to byes or (off week games due to schedule or holidays) and the cancellation of the following week's game. Each team will receive a predetermined credit. Remember you lose a game(s) off the schedule for your team and your opponent. Any team that is late in payments to the league after will be forced to forfeit each game and will not be allowed on the ice until payment is received in full.
League fees are collected from teams not individual players.
If a team forfeits a game (not enough players) on the day of a scheduled game, the opposing team will receive a 1-0 win from the forfeit, no game rescheduled and no refund to other team (rink, scorer and officials are compensated).
The CSHL reserves the right to forfeit any make-up games due to non-payment and remove any team from the league within reason (failure to follow payment schedule, discipline issues, etc.). Any team that has a past due balance at the mid-point of the season (i.e., game #10 of 20 game regular season) shall forfeit any make-up games active on the schedule. Both teams will receive a pre-determined credit (if applicable) for such game(s).
If teams fail to follow the regular season schedule and this puts stress on the playoff season or rink schedule the CSHL reserves the right to not make-up these games (i.e. PPD games etc.) to keep the season moving along. Teams will receive a pre-determined credit and a 1-1 tie in the schedule. If the game has playoff implications it will be played as a make-up game.
If a team forfeits (2) consecutive games, they are suspended from the CSHL (refund may/may not be issued).
In the event the league is shut down (i.e., Covid) all teams will receive a pre-determined refund for games not played.
Liability:
It is understood by all who participate in CSHL league games that they do so at their own risk and the league assumes no responsibility for injuries or deaths that may occur. Any person who participates in our league, or who is present at a league event, for whatever the reason, does so entirely at their own risk.
The CSHL reserves the right to suspend a player or team for any number of games and/or season for inappropriate behavior and to make any changes or add to these rules at any time with notice in order to maintain a safe, fun and competitive league.
